‍An “Eye for a Dog”

‍This concept is the single most important to the success of a dog breeder and judge. Is is the ability to recognize specimens that epitomize the best of a particular breed, including breed type, structure, movement, and soundness.  Individuals in various breeds who have not achieved a great measure of success, this is the one most easily identifiable factor.  Through the years this innate ability to assess breed type has become known as “having an eye.” It’s a sense of the ability to recognize a fine animal.  But yet, even beyond that, it’s a highly developed sense of proportion, symmetry, and balance.
